AI-Based Medical Imaging

Recently, artificial intelligence technology is being applied to medical (bio) fields such as medical image improvement, restoration, analysis, classification, disease screening, and fusion imaging. In this laboratory, advanced artificial intelligence technology is applied and developed based on medical data, medical device systems, clinical knowledge, and pathological characteristics for better healthcare. In order to successfully carry out this project, our research team is approaching various directions, such as image signal processing technology, computer science, and data science, beyond the framework of existing studies. In addition, we are cooperating with Pusan National University Yangsan Hospital and Busan Medical Center, which have state-of-the-art medical devices such as MRI, CT, and medical ultrasound.

We obtain medical knowledge and patient data through meetings with medical experts in the hospital.

Medical Ultrasound Imaging

This project aims to develop a variety of functional imaging using commercialized medical ultrasound systems and research systems under development. Medical ultrasound is being used to test for many diseases because it can observe relatively deep areas in real time, at low cost, and is very safe. This research team is developing focusing on blood flow velocity and direction detection, perfusion measurement, microvascular imaging, muscle elasticity measurement, tumor detection, and three-dimensional panoramic imaging. Another research topic is the development of optoacoustic systems and imaging. The photoacoustic technology has the advantage of using light (laser) and ultrasound technology to obtain high contrast and oxygen saturation information of blood vessels. The long-term goal is to combine medical ultrasound and optoacoustic technology to achieve higher diagnostics at a lower cost.

To this end, we are building disease models, system development, data acquisition, advanced signal processing (machine learning), imaging, simulation testing, animal testing, and in vitro testing.
